Free concert: Celestial Voices

Celestial Voices, led by music director Janet Kelsey, with accompanist Mark Jones, will be performing a free concert at 6pm on Saturday, July 11, at St Mary & All Saints Church, Little Walsingham NR22 6BL. The 35 strong choir will sing music dating from the late 1500s to the present day.

The group spent five days in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France on a singing workshop in June based at a château hotel at Chasseneuil-du-Poitou. On the penultimate night the choir performed a glorious miscellany of music in their concert at Saint-Nicolas Church in Civray. It is this concert the choir will be repeating at home in Norfolk.

The programme includes Bach’s Singet dem Herrn, Rachmaninov’s Bogoroditsye Dyevo, Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Tavener’s Song for Athene, Jenkins’  Benedictus, Forbes-L’Estrange’s Drop, Drop Slow Tears and works by Hedges, Howells, Ravel, Henry VIII and O’Connell.  The concert will last about an hour and a quarter and there will be a retiring collection. Some parking is available alongside the church but much more at the large Mill Car Park towards the end of High Street in Little Walsingham, a short walk to the church.
