Join us for our half term screening! On Tuesday 24th October at 7.30pm.
We screen the animated film MY LIFE AS A COURGETTE (PG) + short (originally voiced in French, we are screening the English language version).
With Erick Abbate, Romy Beckman, Ness Krell, Amy Sedaris. Director Claude Barras. 66mins
Nominated in the 2017 Oscars Best Animation category, an animated film which defies categorisation. A film for half term week, this is not a purely children’s film. Claude Barras’ stop-motion animated feature is a poignant and well observed story about the darker side of childhood. It touches on bereavement, bullying and the desperate plight of young orphans but does so in a way that is humorous and ultimately redemptive.
After his mother’s disappearance, nine-year-old Icare, nicknamed Courgette by his mother, is befriended by a kind police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home. At first he struggles to find his place in this strange, at times hostile, environment. Yet with Raymond’s help and his new-found friends, Courgette eventually learns to trust and might find true love.
‘A stop-motion stunner as heartbreaking as it is beautiful… think of My Life as a Courgette as less of a children’s film than a film about childhood which children can watch, and you’ll have some idea of the quietly extraordinary tone it manages to strike.’ Robbie Collin,Telegraph
