There have been some understandably negative comments recently re the scaffolding on the Oxford Stores in the High Street. This scaffold will have to remain there for a considerable time to ensure the safety of the building, those who will be working there, and passing members of the public. The Stores has got into a dangerous and very fragile structural state, which is why it failed to sell during a long time on the market. All work on this historic listed building is of course subject to all the usual and proper controls and protections. The costly restoration works, being undertaken by a local charitable trust, will commence when all the permissions are in place.
